What’s Stopping You From Hitting Your Sales Targets?
Have you set goals before? Did they matter? Did you achieve them? Which ones slipped through the cracks?
As the new year approaches, are you noticing any resistance to writing your goals? Maybe you think, I’ve been doing this long enough—I don’t need to write them down again. Or perhaps you feel like your current process works well enough, so why bother?
Take a moment to notice that resistance. Don’t judge it. That’s just the “I don’t wanna!” gremlin talking. Resistance is normal, but it doesn’t have to stop you. Acknowledge it, then move forward.
In the next four blogs we will work on Goals, Strategies, Action Plans (respectively), so stay tuned for the rest of this series. For now, let’s dive into goals!
Why Goals Matter
Goals give you a destination. Without them, you’re just wandering. When you write your goals down, they shift from an idea to an intention. They become the roadmap to where you want to go in your sales journey.
Let’s take some action:
- Reflect on the Past Year
- What were your goals last year?
- Which ones did you achieve, and why?
- Where did you fall short, and what could you do differently?
- Write SMART Goals
Your goals should be: - Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve.
- Measurable: Include metrics to track progress.
- Achievable: Aim high, but keep it realistic.
- Relevant: Align your goals with your bigger picture.
- Time-Bound: Set a deadline.
- Example: Instead of “I want to increase my sales,” say, “I will increase my monthly sales by 15% by June 30.”
- Start Small
If the thought of setting big, long-term goals feels overwhelming, start with a few smaller, short-term goals to build momentum. - Commit to Revisit and Revise
Your goals aren’t carved in stone. Plan to check in regularly to adjust based on progress and changing priorities.
