Being intentional is a powerful mindset, but it’s more than just a philosophy—it’s a practical approach that can transform your sales results. By narrowing your focus and aligning your actions with a clear, desired outcome, you set yourself up for success.

What Does It Mean to Be Intentional?
At its core, being intentional is about clarity and purpose. It’s about knowing exactly what result you’re aiming for and letting that outcome guide your actions. While being intentional doesn’t guarantee the outcome, it sharpens your focus and helps minimize distractions.

This is not about “achieving results at all costs”—there’s no room for bullying, dominating, or demanding. Instead, intentionality invites the right actions to come into focus, actions that naturally align with achieving your desired outcome.

Action Steps to Start Being Intentional Today

  1. Define Your Outcome: Before every sales interaction—whether it’s a call, meeting, or email—ask yourself:
  • What do I want to accomplish here?
  • What does success look like for this interaction?

Write your outcome down if needed. Clarity creates confidence.

  1. Set Daily Intentions: At the start of each day, identify 2-3 key outcomes you want to achieve. For example:
  • “Schedule three follow-up calls with potential clients.”
  • “Close one deal from an active proposal.”
  • “Follow up on two quotes from last week.”

Use your calendar or a task list to stay on track and prioritize intentional actions.

  1. Focus on Alignment: As you work through your day, check in with yourself:
  • Are my actions aligned with my goals?
  • Am I spending my time on what truly matters?

If you notice distractions creeping in, gently refocus your energy.

  1. Reflect and Adjust: At the end of the week, evaluate:
  • What outcomes did I achieve?
  • Where did I fall short?
  • What can I adjust moving forward to align my actions with my intentions?
