When Traffic Count Drop…every customer counts even more.
When Traffic Count Drop…every customer counts even more.
This month, I'm focusing on how to thrive with lower retail traffic. The actions you take can transform challenges into opportunities.
Perspective impacts actions.
As Einstein said: “You can’t solve a problem with the consciousness that created it.” HOW you see the problem IS the problem. If a drop in traffic is seen as a problem, each customer is seen as a problem: not enough of them, they are not good enough, or they are not far enough along in their buying process to buy today. All are thoughts that drive actions, consciously or not.
Imagine how a salesperson will treat a customer who they think is a ‘bad up’. Or, after waiting more than an hour for their turn, they get a customer who says they’re just browsing. In a time when traffic was higher, the salesperson could ‘greet and drop’ this customer and check back again to see if they have any questions. And drop them again until they say goodbye when the customer exits (maybe). Does this sound vaguely familiar?
When you rely on an abundance of opportunities, you don’t need to be better with each one because there will be another one coming in soon. That isn’t happening now. Every customer counts even more when there are fewer of them coming in the door.
Actions to Take:
1. Change Your Perspective: See each customer as an opportunity, not a problem.
2. Engage Fully: Treat each customer as if they are the ONLY customer you have right now.
3. Sharpen Your Skills: Use this time to refine your sales techniques and improve your interactions.
The better solution is to see each customer as the opportunity that they are. Get your head in the game before you engage and focus on each customer as if they are the ONLY customer…because they ARE the only one you have right now. Each customer is as good as you are with them since they reflect your skill.
Given that, now is a good time to sharpen your skills so that you can make each customer count.
Now, get busy!
